In-house legal counsel

The role:

An exciting in-house counsel opportunity has arisen for a driven and talented individual to make a real difference as part of a dedicated and professional team. 

The In-house Legal Counsel will provide legal advice and project support across a wide range of areas to support Langham Hall in the Channel Islands, and other jurisdictions as may be required.

Duties and responsibilities:


  • Provide legal and regulatory advice and guidance for Langham Hall in Jersey and Guernsey
  • Advise and support the compliance team in relation to the application of legal and regulatory obligations in each jurisdiction
  • Negotiate, write and/or review legal contracts or agreements on behalf of the Company
  • Assist with the maintenance and development of Langham Hall’s Channel Islands regulatory policies and procedures
  • Advise the operations and client teams on legal, regulatory or tax matters
  • Maintain up to date knowledge in respect of relevant global, EU or local legislative, regulatory, tax transparency or other industry developments and advise on the impact to Langham Hall, taking the lead or participating in project teams to implement any changes
  • Support Directors and Senior Management on new business initiatives
  • Work alongside the client administration teams, senior management and operations teams
  • Provide effective solutions to individuals and teams across the business on all legal matters that arise in relation to clients, ensuring that company procedures are adhered to and that a professional quality service is provided to clients and external parties
  • Provide legal support on the more complex areas of client related matters
  • Monitor legal and regulatory developments, updating senior management and other staff on any relevant changes (through written updates and training) and update internal policies and procedures accordingly
  • Build and maintain strong working relationships with stakeholders at Langham Hall in both Jersey and Guernsey
  • Participate in and be a member of Langham Hall’s business risk committee and management team infrastructure
  • Develop positive relationships with external law firms in the provision of legal advice
  • Research and anticipate unique legal issues that could impact the company
  • Review advertising and marketing materials to ensure that they are in compliance with legal requirements
  • Provide training to the company on legal topics


Technical knowledge / skills required:

  • Strong understanding of funds/ corporate structures
  • Good understanding of Jersey regulation/ legislation and codes of practice
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
  • Strong negotiating skills with both legal and financial/commercial issues
  • Ability to work independently with little or no supervision
